US Primeval Spin-off ‘New World’ in 2012
For better or worse, Primeval is heading Stateside. A new 13-episode Primeval spin-off entitled New World has been given the go ahead.
According to Broadcast Now, it will be “older, darker and scarier” than the UK original and be shown at 9pm.
New Order will follow a North American cast of animal experts and scientists as they investigate the arrival of prehistoric and futuristic creatures. It will feature a “younger, sexier cast, gorier special effects, and storylines that will delve deeper into the characters’ relationships.”
Impossible’s Jonathan Drake said: “This will be a bigger, better, badder re-imagining of the show, rather than a continuation.
“We are really looking forward to working with Omni to help make a series that can exceed even the huge success of the original Primeval in international markets and with viewers across the world.”
The show will be begin filming in Canada this Winter, with a planned Autumn 2012 broadcast on Canadian channel Space. UKTV are apparently in talks for a co-production deal.
So Primeval fans, is this a good idea or bad? With Series 6 uncertain, this may be the only way the show continues.
