Sherlock: Series 3 Delayed

According to EW, filming on the eagerly anticipated third series of Sherlock has shifted a couple of months from January to March 2013.

The report states that the show will now end up being broadcast late 2013 as a result (in a worse case scenario it could be pushed back to 2014).

From the site:

Start of production on the third cycle of the fan-adored detective drama has been moved from January to March. Sources say the shift was necessary to accommodate the busy schedules of the show’s breakout stars, Benedict Cumberbatch (who’s filming Star Trek 2) and Martin Freeman (starring in The Hobbit).

The BBC has not announced a premiere date for season three, but given that January was previously announced as the start of production, fans hoped to see Holmes and Watson return in the summer. Sources say the BBC will air Sherlock series three in late 2013. PBS has to wait until after the BBC’s window. A PBS spokesperson says Sherlock will air either late 2013 — or early 2014.

But at least it’s sure that when we get series 3, it will be beyond awesome. That worths the wait.

Crapola, living in North America it looks like we’ll have to wait until 2014 to see season 3. Mind you, cannot find anything official on the BBC site, and surely they were filming in Cardiff and London this summer, maybe this is just an overhyped story?

My main concern with Shelock was always that it might get in the way of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. To be honest, I’d rather anything involving Moffat be pushed back until 2014.

this is like bubbles the fish in finding nemo: “sherlockians aren’t meant to be waiting. it does things to them” and then every single time something Sherlock comes up we’re all like “SHERLOCK SHERLOCK SHERLOCK” and then it turns out to be an announcement about MORE WAITING

There was an update to this. Sue Vertue posted on her twitter that the delay in production wouldn’t cause any delay with any airdates.

Sherlock Series 3 will very likely air in Autumn 2013. They start filming in March and it takes just under 4 months to film (based on Series Two’s filming schedule). Add in post production time and I’m pretty confident that Series 3 will air around November/December time.
