    • 4th Jack

      I KNOW, RIGHT!

      • That cliffhanger was so expected it was unexpected.

        • That could be on a t-shirt.

          • The War Braden

And there’s the back of it :)

          • Zeph

            I don’t understand

          • The greatest weapon

It seems you’re not the only one XP

  • 4th Jack

WOW! Definitely an improvement! Best episode of Series 3. What a pain that we have to wait another 2 years! What a cliff-hanger! I knew that’d happen somehow! But I won’t spoil the ending for those who haven’t seen it.
Well done Moffat. Well bloody done!
    5/5

    • Dawn Harvey

Has it been confirmed we have to wait for 2 years? I though it would be one year as normal ie next Jan 2015 thanks

      • The Oncoming Hurricane

Since when was that as normal? o_o

We waited 18 months for Series 2 and Series 3 began exactly 2 years after Series 2 began.

    • Brayde Who?

I think there was some news suggesting that Sherlock will return at the end of the year since the viewing ratings were all high time numbers.

  • ClassicWhovian

    O_O
    Moffat!!!

  • The rooftop scene… It’s back.

    • Calebxy

      What do you mean?

      • You know how everyone was watching the scene with Sherlock and Moriarty on the roof of St Bart’s? Everyone’s going to be watching it again!

    • The War Braden

      Spoiler for His Last Vow

This ones simple though, presuming Moriarty’s actually alive he could easily have used a blood pack attached to the back of his neck and a cap gun or a gun loaded with blanks to make it appear as if he had shot himself.

Also in His Last Vow when Sherlock is shot Molly says something about how getting shot isn’t like it is in the movies, there’s no blood spatter and your body isn’t always propelled backwards, well when Moriarty “shoots himself” you see a spatter of blood and he falls straight down, I know there’s a difference between getting shot in the chest and in the neck but it could still be worth noting

  • TheOncomingFish

    …That was brilliant.

  • Calebxy

I’m rather disappointed with this series. :/ I really wish they had done it more conventionally, with the episodes focussing on the case, and actually having constant drama and a developing plot. But still, it was good. But nowhere near as good as The Reichenbach Fall, or even The Great Game.

    • 4th Jack

I agree to an extent. The first 2 eps weren’t at their best. But hey! The show creators aren’t gods! They won’t please ALL the time. I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that, unfortunately. We should be grateful that they actually make such a good and well written show.

      • Calebxy

Yes, but this isn’t a matter of it not quite being able to live up to expectations. The point I’m making is that I didn’t like the whole manner in which the series has been done – that is, the lack of focus on the cases.

        • daanwjanssen

But just the fact that it is not taking the direction you’d like it to take, doesn’t mean it’s not as “good” as one that did, not that you’re not allowed to like the others more than this one, but that doesn’t make it an inferior episode.

Then again we all grade the episode based on our own grading system, so nothing stopping you from giving it a lower grade, but hey, that’s okay.

          • A_Persom

You sir just read my mind. I completely agree.

    • Deus Ex Machina

You know Moffat, he likes to try something new every now and then to keep it fresh. Chances are he’ll switch back to the old format next time as it was obviously preferred by fans. Except then he’ll probably find some other way to shake it up.

That’s what he did with Doctor Who. Series 6 was really different to anything before it and it wasn’t received so well by fans, so for series 7 he switched back more or less to the original format, but found a new way to shake it up with the lack of two-parters and the whole blockbuster episode thing he did.

      • Calebxy

I really wish he wouldn’t do that. That’s one thing I don’t like about Moffat.

    • ZexyZeph

Why do people downvote when it is clearly an opinion! So many butthurt fans jesus christ

  • I spent this whole episode going “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, NO NO NO NO NO, YES! OH MY GOD OF COURSE!”

Until the ending, when I died of an exploding mind.

  • The War Braden

Best 90 minutes of TV I’ve ever watched. Absolutely loved it, the next two years are going to be harder than I thought

    • Zeph

Luckily I’ve got a few more shows to occupy myself! :D

  • YouNeverWouldYouCoward

A lot of great scenes but it was like an emotional SCENE then not a emotional scene then an emotional scene. I never got to cry! 8/10!

  • TardisBoy

    10/10

  • Calebxy

    7/10

    • sontaran17

7/10?! Is your rating meter stuck ?

      • Zeph

It’s just an opinion, if you’re that upset, get the hell out of here! :)

        • sontaran17

          Excuse you Professor Rudeness

      • Calebxy

I really don’t understand why everyone likes it so much.

        • sontaran17

7/10 is very low, regardless if you loved it or liked it, 7/10 is very very bad

          • The Oncoming Hurricane

…Sonny, have you forgotten how averages work again?

          • sontaran17

This isnt the averageing out of the season for him- its the episode by itself. He rates the episode a 7/10 and Ive stated how thats very low for any episode of anything

          • The Oncoming Hurricane

It’s really not, though. 5/10 is an average score, not a bad one. We expect all the media we consume to be above average hence review scores are skewed towards the upper end of the spectrum and now 7/10 is apparently a bad score? This is ridiculous.

          • sontaran17

It depends on the show aswell Hurries, a show that is constantly getting 9 and 10’s out of Ten, to rate it a 7 is considered, to me at least, as the average rating for Sherlock is usually a 9 – a 7 is definetley as rating it down-

5/10 is a shocking score, not an average score, you wouldnt say “That episode was average, not bad but not great – 5/10” A score that in no way reflects the previous opinion

Average scores arn’t set in stone,
7/10 is definetley not average for Sherlock
7/10 may be average for an episode of a daily soap opera, but not a 90 min special rarity….

So yes in this case, 5/10 is not average, and 7/10 is a bad score – in my opinioin at least – Ain’t that ridiculous

          • The Oncoming Hurricane

8.5-9/10 is my personal average for Sherlock, with my lowest rating being The Blind Banker at 7/10 which I consider poor for an episode of Sherlock but still above average TV in general.

What I took issue with was you saying 7/10 was a bad score for pretty much anything…well, no it’s not. And yes, 5/10 is average in general because that is how numbers work. It is half marks, thus It implies an equal amount of good and bad within a show. Otherwise, if 7 is a bad score, when we get to 1/10 the score loses all meaning, I mean what are we saying, lower than dog mess? (or even worse than that). It’s ridiculous.

          • sontaran17

The whole point of an average is that it is particular to specific shows! 5/10 is not an average “generally speaking” its the half way mark….. and if a shows average rating specifically was 5/10 then just because its average for that show doesnt make the rating itslef (5) any less bad. So yes, If my average for a show was 7/10, then it would be considered bad by me- because 7 is a pretty poor score, Id probably stop watching it – Regardless of what the show was a 7 is a 7, and is poor for anything, even if it may be above the average for that particular particular show It can still be the best episode in a series and still be shocking…. It’s not ridiculous

          • Calebxy

No it’s not. It’s good. 8/10 is great. 9/10 is extremely good. 10/10 is virtually perfect.

  • YouNeverWouldYouCoward

It seems a cop out with someone who was seen dying alive.. We’ll see how it playes out.

  • Doctor_and_Tardis_Everywhere

Finally a good episode omg thanks….

    • ZexyZeph

      Explain

      • Doctor_and_Tardis_Everywhere

        Explain what?
in my opinion the 2 first episodes where so bad, and they have so little focus on the cases. I don’t understand how so many people liked those episodes. but every has different taste

  • sontaran17

JEEEEEEEEEEEEZ! tHAT WAS BRILLIANT!! EVERYTHING WAS RIGHT,IT WAS A THRILLER, AND MY GOODNESS ME- JUST BRILLIANT 10/10

  • DalekOswin

Holy deerstalkers that was amazing! Highlights for me were probobly Sherlocks mind palace (especially the part with Moriarty- ‘You’re getting better? Was it something I said?’) , and ant interraction between Mycroft and his parents :)

    • ZexyZeph

Interesting choice of words, “deerstalkers”, i’m going to use that someday

  • Zeph

Sherlock just proves that Steven Moffat can’t give two shits about Doctor Who, not sure what was going on with Doctor Who Series 7 Part 2, but that was honestly horrible except for the ____ OF THE DOCTOR Trilogy :)

    • sontaran17

How does 1 episode of a completley different show prove that this wonderful man “couldnt give two shits” about the thing he is most passionate about in the whole world, honestly what sort of argument is that

      • Zeph

        You mad?
        You are mad.
        Definitely mad.

  • A_Persom

One cannot put into words that level of ….. Of….. GAH I CANT

    20/10

  • Joel Mole

I’m gonna judge the episode as a whole and not by the cliff-hanger (It’s the name of the doctor all over again) I’ll give it a 4. The episode is good and does look good (kudos to Nick Hurran’s direction) but the Mary sub-plot gets brushed aside and Magnussen needed more screen-time.

  • Chapaldi

Best episode of series 3 for me, my only problem was that CAM got overshadowed by Mary and i really wanted to see more of Lars Mikkelsen portrayal
And then the cliffhanger… I am really looking foward to S4
    Let the wait begin…

  • FutureCompanion001

I couldn’t speak after watching this. Me and my sister just jumped around screaming! Best series so far, by a mile!

  • ZexyZeph

Good episode, terrible conclusion, expected more with CAM, It’s great that Moriarty is back, though it wasn’t a cliffhanger, because it wasn’t surprising. For me that was, it just isn’t smart! Death doesn’t seem to exist, basically Supernatural all over again xD

    • The greatest weapon

But death actually literally exists in Supernatural so…

  • ZexyZeph

And let the fangirls scream! T_T

  • ZexyZeph

The one thing that made me laugh so hard, is all the most stupidest theories on redbeard! When we got to see that redbeard was a Dog, I was just filled with laughter xD

  • ZexyZeph

4.5/5 Great Episode, Rubbish and Dull conclusion.

  • The Oncoming Hurricane

10/10 (so 5/5 here). The Mind Palace sequence is one of the best scenes in any television show I have ever seen, hats off to Moffat and Hurran, because that was ingenious.

And I have no problem with the solution either, Magnussen’s literary counterpart also died the same way, so it’s true to the canon it was based on.

  • Calebxy

I take it I’m the only one who thought Magnussen wasn’t a very good villain?

    • dalekjack

I agree. I couldn’t understand why Sherlock hated him so much compared to the likes of Moriarty.

      • The greatest weapon

Because he took people who were different and exploited them, which was presumably personal. Maybe there was the fact that he kidnapped John and threatened to ruin both the Watsons’ lives, but I wouldn’t count on that actually. It was quite clearly a philosophical thing.

    • lp229

I was disappointed that Magnussen did not have any more screentime, but I thought he was quite a creepy character. What he needed was a case to himself in the manner we have seen in the previous series and without the interrupting arc strands.

  • dalekjack

    Edit: Ignore

  • David Havers

Good episode for me but yet again let down by the ending. So Moriaty lives and did not die after all. No one dies in any of Steven Moffat shows. What next Magnussen comes back from the dead in season 4.

    • lp229

We cannot be sure that at the moment that Moriarty is alive. Knowing Steven Moffat, it could well be a trick. I can imagine another villain taking his identity and acting behind the scenes.

  • The Doctor, Islington

The best television I’ve ever seen.

That said, I’m quite sure I don’t like the idea of Moriarty returning at all. I hope it isn’t properly him.

I quite liked his little cameo earlier in the mind palace scenes. Even in death, he and Sherlock fight – that’s more interesting than bringing him back.
