I think the disadvantages part of this article was significantly weaker and could have been handled better. Half of the flaws were already in place.

Yes the amazing spider man series was cancelled but that was all down to how sony handled it. The writing was on the wall as soon as the second movie came out. Even if sony didn’t do a deal with marvel, they possibly would have rebooted soon. The second movie had a ton of flaws – poor writing, a plot riddled with problems, too many characters that added little and it just came across as trying to jump ahead to make a full franchise with the least effort.

They couldn’t have just added the amazing spiderman franchise into the MCU. It would have made zero sense that spider man completely ignored the fact his city was being destroyed and no one in either universe mentioned each other. Also Garfield is 31, when they add spider man into the MCU it prevents them from rebooting the series without having major problems. He could only do the role for a few more movies. Recasting to a younger actor lets them push that problem back several movies.

There was three options – carry on with the series, reboot without marvel or cut a deal. They could have carried on but the last film made a mess and lost peoples trust in it. Rebooting without marvel would just be silly and why would people trust sony to do a third reboot correctly especially when they have never made it past a third film?

I think cutting a deal was the best option. Sure it creates problems, delaying other films for more spider man and I’d rather marvel had him from the start as now there is a risk his entrance will come off weirdly with little prior planning. But for sony, this was the best choice. Marvel has people’s faith and hasn’t screwed up too bad yet. It gives them the best hope of getting a successful franchise of the ground.

  • The Exploding TARDIS

It never stated he was going to be an Avenger…

    • notsosmartguy

He probably will eventually. It’s been rumored they wanted him for t
      Infinity war.

      • The Exploding TARDIS

Yeah, I’m quite sure he will, but how the article states that he IS an Avenger because of this deal is…quite frustrating.

    • Deus Ex Machina

Come on, as if they’re never going to make Spider-Man join the Avengers.

      • notsosmartguy

He’s an Avenger in the comics so I see why not?

        • Deus Ex Machina

Even if he weren’t though, I don’t think that would stop Marvel Studios from adding him to their ranks. Marvel’s most famous hero joins Marvel’s most famous team, it’s too good to pass up.

      • The Exploding TARDIS

OH! I wasn’t saying he was never going to be one, just not right now… Sorry for how I worded that… :P

  • notsosmartguy

I personally think there best bet is to do Miles Morales, but maybe not right away.

  • Gustaff

Just do Maximum Carnage or Venom vs Carnage please! That’s my wish list. Give us the world’s most psychotic serial killer.

    • Deus Ex Machina

Psycho alien-possessed villain vs. psychoer alien-possessed villain. I’d watch it. Many times. “Spider-Man” meets “Alien vs. Predator”.

      • Gustaff

I just want them to do Venom (and then) and Carnage correctly. They are probably his toughest foes and the Green Goblin is getting old.
We’ve had: Green Goblin, Doc Ock (best villain so far), Sandman, Venom, Green Goblin (again), Lizard, Rhino, Electro and Green Goblin again! Time to expand.

        • Deus Ex Machina

My favourite of his villains was always Electro, but the 616 Electro, not the Ultimate Electro used in the film. I like the idea of a villain with powers strong enough to defeat Spidey, but who’s too much of an idiot to ever use them correctly. To see what I mean, listen to GraphicAudio’s adaption of “Spider-Man: Drowned in Thunder”.

Venom and Carnage are probably my second and third favourite villains though, and I agree that they’d be best off using them as we only recently saw Electro.

    • notsosmartguy

I never really liked Venom or Carnage personally (well Eddie Brock Venom anyway). Maximum Carnage would be a good movie idea though. I would Rather see Kraven’s Last Hunt or maybe even Spidermen.

      • Gustaff

I liked the version of Kraven from Spectacular. Usually I find him quite ordinary.

The thing is, after Infinity War, Marvel is going to have to find a new story arc. I think Secret Invasion or the Symbiotes would hold out well. Maximum Carnage is an all out war after all.

        • notsosmartguy

Well we can’t have secret invasion since Fox have the skrulls. I would like to see them do something with Norman Osborn like Dark Reign and the Cabal. We could even see a Norman Osborn controlled Thunderbolts.

          • Gustaff

I agree that could do the Miles thing, but not now. Maybe when it’s time to pass on the torch in like 10 movies or so. RDJ has been Iron Man for a long time now. Pretty soon, they’re going to find a way to have Tony Stark pass on the torch to the new guy. Maybe have Peter die and bring in Miles, but there is still so much to do with Peter. We’ve only just started. You can easily squeeze 5 movies out of him:

            Movie 1: Doc Ock
            Movie 2: Venom/Carnage (Symbiote storyline)
Movie 3: Green Goblin (I know, but fans like GG)
Movie 4: The Six-Arms/Man-Spider Saga (Dark stuff indeed)
Movie 5: Sinister Six [Doc Ock, Scorpion, Shocker, Rhino, Green Goblin, Kraven] (Death of Peter Parker)
            Movie 6: Miles Morales!

Am I the only person who kind of hopes that the fantastic four reboot fails and they eventually give the rights back so we can have a proper Dr doom in the marvel cinematic universe.
