    Hmmm… Ambitious

That’s a very optimistic spin. I don’t think it’s that great. I do believe it needs a second series though so the crew making it can ‘settle’ more into it. Hopefully less recycled Merlin Natural environments (I find it jarring when I identify Merlin Cave, Merlin Dragon Dungeon, Merlin strange rocky microvalley, Merlin Forest).

I did think Merlin got better with season to season (ignoring Morgan’s brief stint of pantomime villain, to which she then became legitimately villainous. And the final seasons out-of-character bleakness). I hope Atlantis does the same, but without Medusa being pantomime villainy (when she first turns evil) and the final series of Atlantis being utterly depressing.

The numbers matches Merlin numbers. As long as it keeps on doing that, the BBC will keep on commissioning it. Not sure how they can prevent the final season of Atlantis or the final episode from being depressing.

It’s the fact Merlin’s bleak final series was out of the blue.

The series were rather light-hearted with occasional weekly peril. Then the last series was McGrim.

I know Atlantis will drown. I hope the series builds up to it tone-wise as well as story-wise. To say it in a way of extremes, I don’t want the final series to be about the drowning of the city/state, but the former series be about Gumdrop Teddybears.

Not if you know the legion, Merlin was always going to end bleakly.

I didn’t know how Merlin (the Arthurian Legends) would end.

It’s not great screenwriting to assume that the viewer is knowledgeable about the subject matter.

I feel that this is a step in the right direction. Atlantis needs a second series in order to iron out any issues. This would improve the show. It’s good, but not great.

Hopefully this means it will improve, much like Merlin did! :D

In my opinion, ‘Merlin’ made a strong impression from the start. The show was at its creative peak from S1-3 and it suffered beyond that because the producers didn’t want to bring the story forward in a way that would break their formula.

While the arc of Jason’s great destiny sounds as though it can promise change. Knowing the attitude of the producers, I do not think the later part of S1, and S2 will change the existing formula of three random men getting caught up in adventures.

Huh… I thought critics hated it (I’m not saying I did but still…)

But the numbers matches that of Merlin. An I guest BBC manage to get good returns on it by selling it over seas, like Merlin did. Money trumps critics everyday of the week, even at the BBC.

I see so many similarities and steals for Merlin in this show. It’s good, but it’s already been done. Plus, the series isn’t actually GOING anywhere with a proper storyline…
