I lost faith in the Merlin creators after the poor handling of Series 4/5. However this does sound rather interesting and I am a huge fan of Greek mythology so hopefully they will redeem themselves.

    • Ellie

Agreed, though I’m hoping they will have learned from that and this can actually be as good as it sounds

  • ravenclaw1991

Very excited for this.. Merlin was one of my favourite shows! I love Greek mythology, so I know this will be amazing.

  • TheDoctorIsAwesome

Brilliant! I am sure it will not be as good as Merlin but I shall watch it. It could be very good indeed.

  • http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0132324 ThePowerofTheDoctor

Ooooh this looks interesting. Can’t wait to see how they play with the Greek Mythology. Greek Mythology is a very interesting subject, and the creators of Merlin handled the Arthurian Legends well, so this should be quite a good series :D

  • snowcat60

Living in the US, I hope I’ll be able to see this show as I did Merlin……I love Merlin and am still a die-hard Merlin fan, but excited to see how they play Greek mythology. I hope they are as successful with casting as they were with Merlin — though can’t see how they can beat hiring Colin, Bradley, Angel, and Katie.

    • http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0132324 ThePowerofTheDoctor

They could cast some of the same actors in this show, I’m sure any of the Merlin cast would probably jump at the chance. I really want to see Bradley James in it though :-D

      • Knowles2

I doubt we will see any of Merlin cast, one of the reasons for the show being cancelled was the cast were all being chatted up by Hollywood casting agents.

        • http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0132324 ThePowerofTheDoctor

I mean as guest stars and such :-P

          • lp229

I don’t see why there is any reason that can’t happen.

        • Nimueh123

Really? I did not know that. Do you have any more details about this???

          • snowcat60

Well, Hollywood or otherwise…. Angel is in a series with Anthony Head and Mithian (sorry, can’t remember her name) also I heard she will be in something else, though I think it is all British. Katie and Colin have several projects going. The only one I have heard nothing about (except that he is playing soccer in and visiting California) is Bradley, and he was the vocal one about wanting out of Merlin…..hah!

          • Nimueh123

Yeah. I have also been wondering what Bradley is up to. I get the impression he is hanging out with a certain lady in L.A.??? Maybe he has got something lined up that started later in the year.
Btw Angel, Anthony and Janet Montgomery (Mithian) are in Dancing on the Edge on BBC. I am quite enjoying that.

This looks very interesting, I’ll try to give it a watch if I can (and I’d imagine that overseas viewers will be able to view it through YouTube so accessing the whole series that way may be beneficial). It sounds like one of those classic mystery dramas; a question posed at the start (what happens to the city?) and gradually answered throughout. Very Life on Mars – one of my favourite TV series ever, so I hope I’m not disappointed.

Also, I’m a big fan of Greek mythology (I’m studying classical civilisation), so this will probably be my cup of tea.

    • snowcat60

though knowing the 2J’s, they will put their own take on the legends……

  • http://thehordeoftravesties.weebly.com/ The Horde of Travesties

I might watch this but I’m not a big fan of programmes which conclude after lots of series. So I hope it has mysteries but that they’re dont last for series.

(Sorry for the grammar errors I’m in a rush)

  • http://thehordeoftravesties.weebly.com/ The Horde of Travesties

I hope they choose likeable actors.

  • SplinKlieg

Well if it’s anything like what we usually get to ease the wait for Doctor Who, it’ll be really mediocre for it’s first season then gradually start building up steam and then flourish into a wonderful series.

Though if it’s created by the same guy who did Dirk Gently hopefully it will break from tradition and have a great season 1.

    • Knowles2

Well if it’s anything like what we usually get to ease the wait for Doctor Who, it’ll be really mediocre for it’s first season then gradually start building up steam and then flourish into a wonderful series.

      THEN IT WILL GET CANCELLED.

      • SplinKlieg

        Boom!

  • Nimueh123

    Another legend, with yet another

    • lp229

Your post made me laugh. I’m personally trying to keep an open mind. If Overman has written and created the show, then I hope this means that the producers will have little creative input. To put it politely, S5 of Merlin revealed Capps and Murphy’s weaknesses at story telling.

      • Nimueh123

That is very positive of you! :)
There might be hope yet, if Howard Overman has any say in what happens in the storyline. I really enjoyed the episodes he wrote for Merlin. Still, the all obvious ending is there (just like Arthur’s death), isn’t it?
Maybe I will feel happier about this by the time autumn arrives?

        • snowcat60

Happy to see both of you ip229 and Nimueh123 on this board about Atlantis. My concerns also. You have to admit they made an incredibly great show (Merlin) and hopefully will learn from their “mistakes.” Though it seems rather coincidental that they like dreary, sad, fateful endings….lol. I need a new show — am watching Downton Abbey but it certainly is not Merlin — waiting for autumn with high hopes…..

          • lp229

Hi there snowcat60, nice to see that some of the old guard are still about. I’m certainly not judging the whole of the show on S5. For four series at least, it was such an enjoyable drama and i will continue to remember it fondly. Sadly, there will always be sense of fulfillment because the show never got the ending that it deserved.

          • Nimueh123

            Soooo true!!!

          • Nimueh123

Yes, it is nice to come across ‘old faces’ again! It just reminds me what huge void Merlin has left behind!
I am watching ‘Once Upon a Time’ now. I just finished series 1 on DVD and reallly liked it (not to the extent of Merlin, but it is great fun) I have to wait now till the season 2 DVD comes out. I certainly would recommend that.
There is another fantasy show coming out on BBC soon: The White Lady (or was it something else ‘white’…sorry, have to check the exact name). I do remember the trailer looking really promising, though.
Sorry for the edits, I am in a rush.

        • lp229

Yes, I quite liked Overman’s stories. ‘The Dsir’ was the major exception, it was well executed but you can’t blame him for the course the episode took, he probably had to carry out an agenda prescribed to him by the producers. The whole episode made little sense in terms of continuity; it was characteristic of the numerous contradictions that occurred as a result of artificially preventing events from moving forward. Other than Overman’s work on ‘Merlin’, I have only seen his adaptation of Dirk Gently, which was fun, but mediocre.

As for the ending, it depends on how they do it, The interesting thing is that I don’t think there is much original material relating to Atlantis directly, unlike the Arthurian legends. To me, it seems at the moment that Atlantis is going to be the new ‘Camelot': a setting for where adventures based on Greek myths will take place. If this is the case, I can quite imagine the story having a depressing ending if the show gets that far.

In theory the idea sounds promising, but I have lost the blind trust that I used to put in the producers.

          • Nimueh123

If you should ever feel like a ‘fix it reveal fic’ for 5.05, let me know! I had to deal with this episode in a different way! :D

          • lp229

Funny enough actually, I have started writing my own alternative S5 arc.Because I am very busy at the moment, I have not got beyond sketching the story arc, but its a little project that I can enjoy carrying on every now and then. It is going to be very different to the TV version; it will bring events forward, while also attempting to fill in the gaps of the producers writing; such as why Aithussa chose Morgana over Merlin.

I would very intrigued to read your fiction.

          • Nimueh123

Well, I tried twice now to let you know about this, but my comment got taken out again???
My story is on the biggest website (fa.fic…. dot net) for this kind of thing (trying to be cryptic now). If you go to the search facility put my on screen name into it. The 5.05 story is called ‘Night of Destiny’ (rather melodramatic, I know :D).
If you ever post let me know. I love reading different versions of Merlin!
Oooops. I have posted this too often.
Thanks if you find it and have the time to read! :)

      • Harry Jewell

yes…Overman is great, he created MisFits.

    • ThirdofEight

I had problems with Season 5 as well, though it had many enjoyable moments. Basically, I question the wisdom of the creators’ entire vision for the show. I know they were basing it off the premise for “Smallville” to some degree, but even Smallville (imperfect as it was) provided us with major steps forward from Clark Kent to Superman over its run. With Merlin, we got five years of secrets, secrets, secrets, and then finally, BAM, everyone found out…five minutes before it didn’t matter anymore. I’m tempted to say that we needed another season, but what we actually needed was for the secret of Merlin’s magic to be revealed to the rest of the characters in Season 3.

Anyway, I will give Atlantis a try and hope for the best, but no, I don’t want to see their mistakes with Merlin repeated.

      • Nimueh123

Thanks so much for the last comment!
I agree with you that the reveal should have come a lot sooner! 5.05 would have been perfect! So much could have been achieved after that!

        • ThirdofEight

My ideal plan for Merlin Season 3: Arthur finds out about Merlin’s magic in a shocking, unexpected twist. He and Merlin have a major conflict lasting for several episodes. Then Morgana would try to twist the situation to her advantage, leading to a reluctant alliance between Merlin and Arthur to defeat her. Then Merlin could have taken his rightful place as OFFICIAL court sorcerer, which would have been totally cool and much closer to the myth. A resurrection of Nimueh and some redemption for Morgana would have been nice too, but I guess I’m straying a bit far into dreamland at this point. :)

          • Nimueh123

No, not at all! This sounds great! I also ventured into ‘dreamland’ writing a fanfic reveal story based on 5.05 to get things off my chest.

          • ThirdofEight

Sounds very therapeutic. I must try that someday…

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ dalekjack

I’ll give this a go. The CGI and writing are sure to be amazing, so it’ll be a.good.watch.

  • That Awkward Silent

Jason? Jason of Jason and the Argonauts perhaps?

  • TheDoctorToThe11th

I might try this, just to fill the holes in-between Doctor Who…

  • Vagelis Koumandanos

Greetings from Greece!!! This sounds wonderful news!!!

  • Dannii

Sounds intriguing! I love greek mythology and this will be a perfect fill in while waiting for Doctor Who. Very similar to Percy Jackson as well, and I LOVE that!

  • Shall_be_lifted_Nevermore

Alright. I have to say…I am excited. So Merlin didn’t have the best ending. But if Atlantis takes me on half as great of an adventure as Merlin did, if it even has an ounce of that same mystical, legend-y feel… I sure as hell am watching it! Who’s with me, huh?
